Mr. alberto podesta

The 2009 International Chicago Tango Fest is honored to welcome Mr. Alberto Podestá, a tango icon in his own right, with a long, brilliant career as tango vocalist and composer.

Mr. Podestá became a member of the Miguel Caló orchestra in 1939, when he was only 15 years old. Over the years, he has sung with the orchestras of Carlos Di Sarli, Pedro Laurenz, Francini-Portier, Sexteto Mayor, Lisandro Adrover, Carlos Buono and Sans Souci. He has appeared on Argentine radio and at the most prestigious tango clubs in Buenos Aires. He has recorded with Alberto Di Paulo, Leopoldo Federico, Luis Stazzo and Jorge Dragone. Among Alberto Podesta’s most well-known recordings are “Alma de bohemio”, “Nada”, “Percal”, “Al compás del corazón”, “Nido gaucho”, “La capilla blanca”, “El milagro”, “Margo”, “Qué falta que me hacés” and “Qué me van hablar de amor”. He is the composer of “Dame tiempo”, among others. In the last several years, Alberto Podestá has participated in tango festivals in South America and Europe and is recognized as a living legend of tango history and the singer of the tangos most danced to all over the world.
